Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Warren County District Attorney Jason Carusone led the county's annual Crime Victim Memorial Ceremony on Monday morning, highlighting some high-profile cases around Warren County from recent years. He commended the victims who have survived crashes, attacks and abuse - and mourned those who had not."We need to have attention on the victims of crime; it has to be a focus," Carusone said. "You're called a victim for a reason, and some of the ways this is discussed now is in terms of 'survivors' rather than victims. I like that, but not everyone gets to be a survivor - because some victims lose their lives."The theme of this year's ceremony was "Elevate, Engage, and Effect Change." Victims l...

Opinion: Goodbye Tucker Carlson. I’ll miss the cartoons. Tucker Carlson will no longer be on Fox News. California Republicans blast 'crazy' fixed-rate power bill proposal

California Republicans blast 'crazy' fixed-rate power bill proposal California Republicans are asking state regulators to reject a proposal by California's three largest power companies to create a fixed rate for services based on household income."The ‘fixed-charge’ proposal is nothing but a shameful attempt to exploit and rip off residential customers,’” Senate Republicans said in a letter sent to California’s Public Utilities Commission last week. “Another name for this proposal could be the 'Hard Work Utility Tax,' as it is an unjust and regressive plan that fails to recognize the differences in energy usage among households and unfairly burdens lower-income families.”The passage of Assembly Bill 205 required utilities to simplify power bills while lower costs for lower-income residents. As a result, Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas & Electric and San Diego Gas & Electric submitted a joint proposal to the CPUC earlier this month to create a tiered fixed-rate system that would cover basic services and operating costs.Households wit...

Lawmakers roll out new gun legislation in wake of Monterey Park Lunar New Year shooting Three months after the Lunar New Year shooting claimed 11 lives in Monterey Park, local and state officials on Monday announced new legislation that they hope will prevent similar shootings in the future. The first bill would remove all guns from the possession of someone convicted of a crime using a firearm. The second prevents law enforcement or other government agencies from reselling guns to the community."Let's make sure we destroy those guns, not resell them," said Cristine DeBerry, founder and executive director of the Prosecutors Alliance of California, which supports the bills."State and local government agencies should not be arms dealers," added Assemblymember Mike Fong (D-Alhambra), whose district includes Monterey Park.
