Abbott signs Texas bill allowing fentanyl deaths to be prosecuted as murder AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new Texas law will up the criminal penalties for fentanyl distribution, including allowing prosecutors to seek a murder charge in connection with fentanyl-related deaths. The bill, which Gov. Greg Abbott signed Wednesday afternoon, will increase criminal penalties for selling and distributing fentanyl. House Bill 6 also allows prosecutors to seek a murder charge for a person who manufactures or delivers fentanyl when someone dies as a result of the controlled substance. New community center, trailheads in the future for Georgetown parks GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) — The City of Georgetown is working out how to make its 10-year Parks and Recreation Master Plan become a reality. Plans from its 5-year Capital Improvement Program laid out a tentative timeline of when and how those Master Plan projects would be accomplished.The Capital Improvement Program, or CIP, presentation was given during the workshop portion of the June 13 meeting of the Georgetown City Council.Parks and Recreation leaders shared the various projects it wants to achieve in the Master Plan - those being grouped by high, medium, and low priority. Among high priority projects set to be complete in one to three years were improvements to park safety, designing Blue Hole Park, and the potential to build a new recreation center in the city.Parks and Recreation Director Kimberley Garrett has been with the department for nearly 30 years. Those vehicles were piloted by local students taking part in a longstanding tradition.Tuesday was "Drive Your Tractor to School" day for Hartford Central School. 31 students came by agricultural chariot - some with a parent riding shotgun to make sure nothing went off-course. Troy man arrested for two counts of grand larceny CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On Monday, the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office arrested Cole D. Vincent, 54, of Troy. Vincent was charged with two counts of grand larceny, one count of criminal possession of stolen property, one count of criminal mischief, and one count of criminal trespass. Police say Vincent allegedly stole a construction trailer from a business in Halfmoon on June 5 and a pickup truck from a business in Clifton Park on June 12. The construction trailer was recovered after being abandoned on State Route 787 in Cohoes. The pickup truck was recovered in a hotel parking lot in Clifton Park.According to the police, Vincent also caused damage to a gate owned by a business in Clifton Park and then trespassed on the property. Vintenct was arraigned in the Clifton Park Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility without bail.

Man arrested at home in Aurora after emailing bomb threat to Douglas County Sheriff A 41-year-old man was arrested at his home in Aurora after emailing a bomb threat to the Douglas County Sheriff stating a bomb would explode at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, authorities said Wednesday.Aurora Police Department SWAT team officers arrested William Wright on Tuesday afternoon and he was booked into the Douglas County Detention Facility on a charge of falsely reporting explosives, sheriff officials wrote in a news release.The email received on June 11 said a bomb was in a box placed at the fairgrounds and specified a date and time, officials said. Police searched the fairgrounds and adjoining facilities. No bomb was found.
